Putin: Russia plans no blocking of social nets but they ignore laws

MOSCOW, Jun 30 (PRIME) -- Russia does not plan to block foreign social networks, but they ignore the country’s requirements and laws, President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday during a Q&A session.

“No, we have no such plans, we are planning to block nobody, we want to work with them. But there are problems stemming from their telling us to stuff it when they do not respect our requirements and the Russian laws,” Putin said.

The president named messenger Telegram as an example of normal interaction of the authorities with the social networks.

“I think that we’ve agreed with Telegram, everything is working,” he said.

The communications service had been blocking Telegram during almost two years for its reluctance to share decoding keys with the Federal Security Service, but then said it likes Telegram’s readiness to resist terrorism and extremism.
